The Greater Grief, 2021
Harmeet Rattan
Clock, Natural pigments, Acrylic on canvas pasted on board
The artwork represents a broken mirror that provides a shattered reflection, much like today's reality when discussing the worsening gender ratio. In a developing world, the proportion of women and men in the population is suspiciously low, reflecting great neglect of women. Excessive female mortality is a universal phenomenon common to all ages. The pendulum shows the aspect of balance or the lack of it while comparing a tough stone to a delicate feather. The clock represents a weaving of emotions that a person goes through when they lose someone they love. The clock also shows that it is happening every second.
